Trace Awards Celebrate African Icons
Nigerian artists Rema, Davido and Burna Boy were all recognised for their exceptional musical talent at the Trace Awards this year.
The three stars attended the awards ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda last Saturday, 21 October, as A-listers from around the world gathered to celebrate the creativity of African and African-origin artists.
Rema claimed two awards, the first of which was Song of the Year for his major hit, “Calm Down”. For the second award, he was granted joint winner of the Best Global African Artist category, alongside Nomcebo.
Davido also walked away with two of his own awards, the first of which was the title of Best Male and the second, which was Best Collaboration, for the “Unavailable” single with Musa Keys from South Africa.
Not to be left out, Burna Boy also made his country proud with the “Love Damini” LP, which bagged him the accolade of Album of the Year.
The day after the elaborate affair, Rwandan President Paul Kagame met up with Rema at his presidential palace to congratulate the singer for his prestigious achievements.
During the meeting, Rema hinted at future collaborative efforts with like-minded individuals, telling Kagame: “I feel like it’s even going to be a bigger thing when we [Africans] start uniting. I must say thank you so much, Mr. President.”
